NOTE: We are no longer accepting papers for the 2016 SWCED, as all speakers have been already identified. Thank you for your interest, and we hope you'll consider applying for the 2018 SWCED.     The seventeenth biennial Texas Statewide Conference on Education of the Deaf or Hard of Hearing invites proposals for papers that address a wide variety of issues in the education of students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Presentations reflecting the conference theme, “Igniting the Flame Within:  The Pursuit of Student Success”, will be considered for concurrent sessions.
 

Topics:
Topics include accessing the general curriculum; best teaching practices in English, language arts, reading, mathematics, science, & social studies; providing for the education of infants and preschoolers; working with low-functioning deaf; transition; parenting children who are deaf or hard of hearing; and collaboration between family and professionals.  Other strand areas include bimodal bilingual issues; listening and spoken language; administrative and legal issues; sign communication and interpreting; audiology; and evaluation of children who are deaf or hard of hearing.  Training sessions are also needed in the advancements of amplification technology and instructional technology.
 
Format:
Concurrent sessions are 1½ hours long and include time for introductions, discussion, questions and evaluations. Longer sessions in 90 minute increments (3 hours, 4½ hours, and 6 hours) will be considered.
 
Proposal:

Application Deadline:  
Completed applications and vitas must be submitted electronically by Monday, Feb. 29, 2016.  Acceptance notifications will be sent to the main applicant only via email by Monday, April 4, 2016.
 
Fees & Expenses:
Presenters selected from the Call for Papers will not be paid an honorarium or be reimbursed for expenses.  Speakers invited to present with prior approval of the committee will be paid a negotiated and approved flat rate contract fee.
 
Registration:
RDSPD/ TSD /DARS personnel are asked to pay full registration as a financial support for the conference. Presenters who are not affiliated with RDSPD, TSD , or DARS may attend other sessions on the day of their presentation without paying registration. Attendance on multiple days, at meal functions, or requesting CEU credit will require paid registration.
 
Media:
  Every effort will be made to meet the requests for media equipment as indicated on the submitted ‘Call for Papers’.  Please help keep the conference costs down by requesting only essential  equipment. Changes in equipment requests will NOT be accepted after Friday, May 20, 2016.
 
Copies:
Presenters are responsible for providing handouts for their presentation. Duplication will not be provided by the conference.
